TL DR It’s a great indicator of who to block and also it’s silly as hell if you try to use it as an actual insult? I’m more affected by the F & T slurs I’ve gotten but I doubt they wanna go mask-off publicly (I actually have some joking palette edits with different toothpaste brands like Crest in my drafts that I haven’t posted yet b/c I’ve been busy but that’s my thoughts on that. Sorry for geeking out about flag design but a lot of people seemingly don’t understand why flags look the way they look most of the time and decide to be homo/transphobic about it. To make a textbook “good” flag you have to find a way to incorporate all 5 of those principals which is why none of the proposals are wildly different and why I accept/survey for what to tweak/add/remove. These are from the North American Vexillological Association or NAVA which is the largest organization of it’s kind.
Also why I borrowed the white stripe from the trans flag to directly relate the two.) (aka “it’s not bad if flags have the same number of stripes or use a gradient, just don’t make a 1:1 copy”. Avoid duplicating other flags, but use similarities to show connections. No Lettering or Seals (No writing or complicated symbols, simple/optional symbols are best)ĥ. Use 2 or 3 Basic Colors (I cheated and used four but most people deny the purple so Eh)Ĥ. Use Meaningful Symbolism (if you’ve read the proposal post at all I don’t need to explain this)ģ. Keep it Simple (why I made the 5-stripe version/kept all colors in the same range)Ģ. in other LGBT flags like Transfem/Transmasc) but this is because of the Five Principles of Vexillology (aka the study of flags/making them) which areġ. Yet I haven’t seen a lot of “kys” or “MLM are hateful towards Argentinians/just want what they have” discourse around that, and it even uses blue and a historical symbol for gay men! Incredible. Or they honestly just aren’t great with colors/hues (many people have issues w/ identifying deeper purples on a gradient & have no idea what “hue shift” means) or vexillology, here’s a great exampleĪnd this is the broadest MLM flag that I’m sure many people are familiar with! (you might have seen a version with a more simplified symbol) Or that they’re personally offended by the explicit inclusion of Trans/GNC/NB gays via the borrowed Trans flag stripe. Or that they just despise the idea of us having a flag beyond the communally-used Rainbow/Progress flags. When I see it, it just tells me that person didn’t actually bother to read anything beyond unsourced/false Twitter drama falsifying my identity/opinions ( like the racism accusations, where I got a direct apology from the person who caused it) which is just par for the course for LGBT “discourse”/drama on social media (especially if you’re openly trans/trans-inclusionary). RE: the “toothpaste” thing, I honestly don’t find the name upsetting. (I do think the green/white/pink/purple variant might warrant a slightly modified name because it doesn’t have ocean blue in it but I can’t think of any on the spot.) I like it but I’d love to do another survey like the ones in my pinned to see more suggestions! I’ve seen Ocean Flag a lot and tbqh I think it’s fitting, since the flag has layered meanings and represents a large group of people I can see someone more eloquent than me drawing a parallel between that and the rich deepness of the sea and everything in it.
